Severe Weather Guidelines

We want to remind everyone of Little League's lightning policy.

If ANY lightning is visible or thunder is heard, all players must be removed from the field for a period of not less than 30 minutes.  The clock starts again with further sightings or thunder.  The dugout with the metal fencing is not a safe place to be.  Parent's cars, equipment room, umpire room, and/or Snack Shack are available to use for shelter.  This goes for practices off-site as well.  Especially for off-site practices, make sure you communicate with parents ahead of time so there are enough vehicles available to get the players somewhere safe.

If any team is playing a game away, we suggest discussing the severe weather procedures at the plate meeting or before.  MLL coaches are responsible for their players.  They are able to pull their players off the field for any safety reason, so don't rely on the opposing league or coaches to make that call if they are not following Little League rules.

We are also under a heat advisory today until 8pm.  Hydration is the key.  A note to parents to have their players hydrate prior to practice or games and to apply sunscreen is a good idea.  Remember if they are thirsty on the field they are already dehydrated.  Push the fluids.  Liquid IVs are also a good idea.  Look for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke in players and volunteers.  Headaches, nausea, weakness, thirsty, anxiety, poor coordination, dizziness, and sweating heavily are some of the more common things to keep an eye on.  Get them in shade, some water, and cool compresses if symptoms are evident.

Please pay particular attention to your catchers and umpires today as wearing all that gear is hot.  Rotate your catchers often if possible.  Definitely make sure they are hydrating between innings.  If any inning is going especially long, a water break is allowed at the appropriate time.

If any player or volunteer does not have a water bottle with them at the complex, please ask at the Snack Shack for one.  MLL will provide them free today.  Let's keep the players and volunteers safe out there today!
